Slow Food Tennessee Valley is very happy to announce our 6th Annual Pie Contest, to be held on Sunday, Dec. 11th at 5 pm at the new Hexagon Brewing Co. tasting room near Fountain City. We’ll also be celebrating Terra Madre Day, which falls on Dec. 10th.
For those unfamiliar with this SFTV holiday tradition, the idea is simple: we all bake pies, then come together to enjoy samples of each other’s handiwork. The best pies win prizes, and everyone goes home with a belly full of pie!
THE RULES: To enter the pie contest, simply bake a pie that includes at least one local ingredient. A homemade crust is not required, but will earn you points with the judges, as will using more than one local ingredient. Best savory and best sweet pie will be chosen by our judges; the audience chooses its favorite (from amongst all the pies) by voting. Votes are $1 each, and you can vote as many times as you like. To be considered for the contest, pies MUST BE SUBMITTED by 5:30 p.m.
ENTRANCE FEE: a pie (one pie per individual/couple, please), or $7 per person
WHO IT BENEFITS: Proceeds from this year’s pie contest will go toward Slow Food Tennessee Valley’s initiative to support the Power of Produce – POP Club, which provides a fun opportunity for children to engage in the local food system through conversations directly with farmers, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. Participating kids also receive vouchers to spend at the market, allowing them to make their own shopping decisions. SFTV is helping out by sponsoring transportation and vouchers for local participants in the program.
As always, we strive for zero waste events, so please bring your own place setting (plate, silverware, napkin, drinking glass). This is a BYOB event. Questions? Message us on FB or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
